On long nights after my reign, I think about....him. I will never forget you... and I'll never forgive you! He was my love, my husband, my captain, Rida.Rida was the village's hero, as he was captain of the fishing guild which imported fish, meat, and other fruits from his missions. He was seen as a hero in the eyes of others. He was my captain, as I was his first mate. We were made for each other. We may have been physically separated, but the bond we shared grew strong.Then, one night, he got word that he will need to leave for a big mission the next day. I usually worry when he's gone, but something told me to worry more. I tried to explain my feelings, but he shrugged it off as, "overreacting". Knowing he has went on several missions like this, I put my worries to the side. Next morning, we kissed each other goodbye as him and his crew sailed off into the sunset. Days went by, and no word from him. No note, nothing.Few days went by, and I worried about Rida. Just then, I received word from the sailor commission that then ship has sunk, and there were no survivors. My heart exploded. I could not believe the feelings. He was my captain.... my only one. He was lost at sea.I couldn't handle the emotions. The grief that ran through my veins. Then I felt something. Felt something inside saying he was not lost at sea. He was alive. Rida.... I can see him, feel him. I was always afraid of the water. But, to settle the feelings in my heart, I was willing to face my fears.So i packed up my bag, waited for nightfall, and left for the harbor. As I approached the harbor, my heart was beating rapidly. I've never done anything like this. What would the village think if I was caught? Would I be considered the crazy one? Would I be a thief? I couldn't think like that. I have to be brave, confident, to find him.As I snuck pass the guard sleeping my the security office, I found a small paddle boat with oars. This should be perfect to sneak out of the harbor. No one would notice. After figuring out how to stay inside the boat, I was on my way.It had been days of nonstop rowing, seeing the same ocean, the same sun and moon, the same seagulls. I was never going to find him. I needed a small break to regain my thoughts and stamina. I heard a storm moving in. Looked up and saw the biggest storm cloud I have ever seen. The storm was moving in quickly. With no sight of land, I prepared for the storm to hit me.The waves got stronger the longer the storm. The boat rocked back and forth. Struggling to stay in the boat, I held onto the sides. Thinking everything was going to be alright. The storm seemed to get stronger, the waves were stronger, my boat couldn't take much more of the waves.As thunder had crashed, I heard a loud growl. What was that growl?! The next thing I knew, a large tentacle or tail had slapped the side of the boat. It was some kind of sea monster. The next moment, the boat was then slapped and broke in half.There I was, struggling to stay on top of the water. I never learned to swim. Flailing my arms, swallowing sea water as my head went under, this was the end. There was no way I was going to survive this. Facing my biggest fear, times 2 with a sea monster. I could feel myself slowly being pulled under the water. My strength going weak.I eventually slipped under the water unable to get back to the surface. Being pulled down, this was it. Maybe Rida was really gone. Maybe we could be one together again. Maybe, just maybe. As I took my last breath, I closed my eyes to accept my faith.I felt my hand being gripped and pulled. Hearing the growl of the sea monster, and hearing another growl. This one, more vicious, more powerful. After the growling subsided, I could hear a beautiful melody. The melody continued to go on and on, I then felt my lungs fill up and I awoke.I could breathe underwater?! How?! I felt my shoulder being touched. Startled, I turned around and saw a beautiful creature. A mermaid? I didn't know they existed?! She proclaimed she was Akira, a sea siren. She saw I was struggling through the storm and wanted to help. She further explained she gave me the power to breathe under the water and the power of the siren's song.With this new power, I could continue to search for my husband! But I still could not swim. With the power of the siren's song, a tail had appeared from my behind. How can a half siren half human swim?! She then grabbed my hand and told me to start paddling your feet and everything will come naturally.As we went along, she let go of my hand and I could swim myself. I am swimming! And breathing?! This is still mind-blowing to me. In the distance, I can see a shipwreck. This ship looked familiar. She swam towards it and waved me to come closer. As I swam over, my heart started beating faster. Turns out, the ship was the same ship Rida's.Still hoping the feelings are real, he is still out there. I just know it.As time goes by, I spent time protecting ocean dwellers from evil. Krakens, Megalodons, Sharks. I became the hero Rida was. I was our new ocean overlord and protector.As I found my new honor to protecting the defenseless, I still seek my lost husband. To regain the oneness we have. Maybe if I find him, I could to make land and sea creatures mingle as one... maybe to use to my advantage... maybe to be good. Maybe to be evil.... maybe both.The story continues, as I continue to search for Rida.
